PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This was my first attempt at a force field type effect based on a tutorial by Fabio Sasso (see credits for link). This was close to the beginning of my long and terrible obsession with creating spheres. Technically it started with the crystal ball, but this is what really struck a cord in me that they look awesome and they're possible to create solely in photoshop.

They're also a pain in the you know what for me to make. I only have Photoshop Elements *GASP* (I'm not made of money, OKAY?) and Elements has a lot less features that make creating my beloved bubbles easier, especially with making reflections. It's still possible, it's just not as simple.

As I have mentioned before, when I first started using Photoshop I was not aware of stock photo models, so I ended up using myself in every design that I needed a person in. This was rather disappointing, as I am not fond of posting pictures of myself (believe it or not; I do realize I have posted an inordinate number of photos of me on here). In this photo, I decided that I did not want to be as visible, so I started experimenting with different effects until I came upon what you see above. I thought the glow effect not only looked really neat, but also hid my face, so it was a win-win.

On top of that, it also solidified (in my mind, anyway) the fact that this looks like a terminator arrival from the future (hence the title of the image). I did add lightning in my original design, but it looked cheesy so I omited it. The forcefield thing is far from perfect, and in some ways it looks more like a soap bubble with the swirls than an energy field, but I still like it. Probably the most simple thing to do here are the shockwaves in the ground, but they are my favorite part.

I took this photo while I was visiting a friend. As you can see in the behind the scenes photos below, I placed myself onto the balcony in post production. I didn't trust myself to balance the camera on the balcony rail without it falling so I decided to do it this way. That's what Photoshop is for, right?
