I made this as a photoshop contest entry for Phlearn. Phlearn is a photoshop and photography tutorial website that I really like. Aaron Nace, the founder of Phlearn, posts tutorials on YouTube that are fun and helpful.
They ran a contest with some pretty good prizes, so I decided to enter. The requirements were to use one of, or several, provided images of Aaron in an image. They would analyze it for blending, humor, creativity, etc.
As you may recall, I have already done a puppet design in the past. However, looking at the pictures that they allowed us to use, I thought it would be really funny to create another one with Aaron as the puppet and puppetmaster. Unfortunately, I did not have a chance to begin the design until the day it was due, so I wasn't able to spend as much time on it as I would have liked. I also made a couple mistakes, mainly with the shadows. I thought about fixing the shadows before I posted it on my site, but this is the image I turned in for the contest, so I chose to leave it.
I added a wooden texture over the puppet and gave him hinges on his knees and shoulders. I used a stock photo of a rug for the ropes and warped each individual string to appear as if he is pulling on the puppet. Other than the shadows, I am happy with the result.
I didn't win, but that's okay. It was fun to use Photoshop again. I haven't had a whole lot of time, or creative ideas, lately, so I enjoyed doing it. I hope you like it. I'll see you later!
