This photoshop design took me much longer to create than it should have. When I first made it, I hadn't taken that little thing called copyright infringement into consideration and basically just saved every cool photo of a castle I could find. I spent hours painstakingly cutting them out and fitting them into the background. Only when I decided to post my work online did I realize that I wasn't able to use a single one of the castles I had used.
And so I proceeded to search for new photos to use in the artwork. Let me tell you, finding thirteen photos of castles that are not only permitted to be modified and shared, but also that fit into the image I wanted to create, was much more difficult than I had imagined. In other words, it was a pain in the ass! In the end, it was worth it and I am happy with the finished result and the fact that I'm actually able to share it.
My motivation for this design was to create a world of magic, overlooked by a girl on a balcony of her own castle. Pockets of magical beings and power exist throughout the medieval land. I used a stock photo of the cosmos to create the effect by flattening it along the land and changing the view. I originally attempted to add dragons into the scene, but they didn't look realistic or fit in, so in the end I decided to omit them.
I named this To Another World because this picture reminds me of a song by the same name sung by Kuba. I've always loved that song and it elicits images of leaving this world and going to one beyond our vision and imagination. I'm not sure why, because he doesn't sing about that specifically, but it does nonetheless. Anyway, it's a good song that's pretty obsure, so I suggest you check it out. Years ago someone had made a video for Mirrormask with this song, which was very good. It may still be on YouTube.
As always, I would like to thank all of the people on the left for the wonderful stock photos. Without you, I would not have been able to create this. I have included some behind the scenes images below. I like to show what I start with because it makes it more obvious how much (or little) I have changed and you can see a little of my process.
